In the Lewiston Municipal Court Wednesday morning, Ralph Gauvin, a 19 year-old Lewiston youth, pleaded guilty to larceny and was fined $3 and costs. The game which Gauvin confessed he had worked successfully on seven farmers was rather a new one. He would hold out a five dollar bill for payment for produce and, without releasing his hold on the bill, would wait until the change had been put in his hand and then run. He paid the fine imposed.
50 years ago, 1960
Mrs. Madelyn Peterson Wardwell of East Auburn , a member of a family long associated with the bakery business locally, has purchased the Eith bakery property at Spring and Hampshire streets, Auburn.
Mrs. Henrietta Clark, a niece of Mrs. Sophie Eith, original owner of the bakery, has operated the bakery about ten years. She plans to go to Florida where she has a home. Mrs. Eith is now a resident of Florida.
25 years ago, 1985
Saying the Auburn School Committee needs more women members, Donna Rowell announced Thursday that she is a candidate for the Ward 4 School Committee seat.
Although she has no political experience, Mrs. Rowell said she believes she can do the job. “It’s something I always wanted to do,” she said. “I’m a concerned parent.”
When asked if she thinks the School Committee is doing its job well, Mrs. Rowell responded,”It can be better. That’s one of the reasons why I’m running.”
