MONMOUTH — AppleFest at the Monmouth Museum will be celebrated on Saturday, Sept. 25, with activities for the whole family.
The museum is located on Main Street, next to the Post Office. At 8 a.m., the Friends of the Theater at Monmouth will sponsor a 5K road race; from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. all museum buildings will be open to the public at no charge.
Homemade apple pie and coffee will be available all day long at the Museum’s Apple Pie Cafe.
The Ladies’ Auxiliary of the United Church will serve a pancake breakfast from 8 to 10 a.m. in the Packard Center at the church.
The Central Maine Harmony Boys Barbershop Quartet will perform at 10 a.m. and again at 1 p.m. on the porch of the Carriage House.
The Boy Scouts will sell hamburgers and hot dogs beginning at 11 a.m. on Flanders Circle, and at 2 p.m., there will be an Apple Pie-eating Contest for kids 12 to 18. Directly after the contest, winners will be announced for the children’s Scarecrow Contest.
Throughout the day, Uncle Jacque, the Civil War troubadour, will stroll around the grounds performing selections from his repertoire of period music using ancient instruments from his collection. Also, at the Blacksmith Shop on Maple Street, a blacksmith will offer demonstrations of the craft.
In various locations about the grounds there will be exhibits of heirloom apples, a children’s activities tent, Barrel Car rides, horse and wagon rides, and more.
