LARGO, Fla. — Denis R. “Dan” Cloutier, 68, passed away on Friday, Sept. 10, surrounded by his wife and children, in Largo, Fla., at the Suncoast Hospice, after courageously battling cancer.

He was born in Auburn, Dec. 18, 1941, the son of the late Willie and Victoria Genesse Cloutier. Dan served in the National Guard and worked for 25 years at Samson’s Furniture Co. in Lewiston, retiring as co-owner. He married the former Jeanne Dubois on May 4, 1963.

He and his wife lived in Florida for the winter months since 2001. He was a member of St. Catherine of Sienna Church in Largo, Fla., and the Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish at Sacred Heart Church in Auburn.

He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Jeanne, of Florida; two daughters, JoAnn Surette and husband, Robert, of Harrison and Judith Hartford and husband, George, of Auburn, who they resided with in the summer; a son, Robert Cloutier and wife, Mary Beth, of Auburn; six grandchildren, Bobbi Jo and Nicole Surette, Cassandra Hartford, Victoria Cloutier and Robbie and Christopher Cloutier; two brothers, Fern Cloutier and wife, Jeannette, of Florida, and Maurice Cloutier and wife, Jean, of Sabattus; and three sisters, Dorothy Dube of Lewiston, his twin sister, Denise Lamontagne and husband, Maurice, of Auburn and Jacqueline Bisson and husband, Maurice, of Lewiston.

He was predeceased by a brother, Andre Cloutier.
