PORTLAND (AP) – Republican Susan Collins and Democrat Tom Allen have together raised more than $13 million in their Senate race, the most expensive political campaign in Maine history.
Collins, who’s seeking re-election, announced Tuesday that she raised $1 million in the third quarter, bringing her total to $7.6 million. Her report to be filed with the Federal Election Commission indicates she had $3.3 million in cash in hand on Sept. 30.
Allen, meanwhile, announced he raised $996,000 during the lastest period, bringing his total to $5.7 million. He had nearly $1.7 million in cash in hand.
Maine’s previous campaign record was $8 million spent in the 2002 election in which Collins defeated Democratic challenger Chellie Pingree.
