WILTON — A  Jay woman escaped injury Tuesday when a tire from a tractor-trailer truck came loose, struck her vehicle and bounced over the hood on Route 2.

The driver of the truck stopped to look for the trailer tire but left before police arrived, Wilton police Chief Dennis Brown said.

Kristin Burhoe, 22, was driving west and had just passed the McCrillis Corner Road when the tire from the eastbound truck broke free from the rim and hit the left front of her vehicle. Police estimated approximately $3,000 damage to the Chevrolet Cobalt she was driving.

Witnesses said two young men in the tractor-trailer truck stopped to look for the tire but then left, heading east toward Farmington.

Brown issued an alert for Farmington and state police to watch for the truck, he said.
