HANOVER — The third annual Celebration of Fall takes place inside and around the historic Gardner Roberts Memorial Library all day Saturday, Oct. 9.

Volunteer librarian Peg Susbury said this year’s event includes sales of gourds, dried sunflowers, pumpkins and other produce from Friendly Fred’s garden.

The garden was part of the library’s summer reading program. Youngsters are still working in it and will be at the fall festival to help Fred, the garden’s scarecrow, with sales.

All money raised will go toward tools and other items for next year’s garden, Susbury said.

The Library Bees, a group that helps support the library, will also hold a craft sale of items such as decorated dish towels, dried flowers, aprons and other items. If sales go well, Susbury said the library will continue to offer handmade items for several weeks.

One of the biggest fundraisers is the raffle of 11 themed baskets filled with a variety of items, along with three craft projects. Among the baskets this year is “It’s A Man’s World,” with tools, caps and other items stuffed in a plastic milk box and decorated with a duct tape bow. The “Fisherman’s Dream” basket includes both large and small tackle boxes among the items.

There’s also a Halloween basket, Christmas basket, hiking basket, pie-maker’s basket and several others.

Raffle tickets are on sale at the town office or at the library. The baskets are on display at the town office.

Other events during the 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. celebration include grab bags for children, trash and treasure items, and lots of homemade foods offered through the Book Bakery Snack Bar.

All money raised will go toward the purchase of items for the library.

The fall celebration is also an open house to show what’s new in the library. This year, the library will be heated for most of the year thanks to a grant from the Stephen and Tabitha King Foundation, Susbury said. A “log-burning” propane stove was recently installed.
