Del Gendron, far left, visits with Ann Slonina’s kindergarten class at Saint Dominic Academy in Lewiston after the children presented Gendron with a jar full of pennies on Wednesday. Each class from pre-kindergarten to 12th grade at St. Dom’s collected money for one week to help the YWCA of Central Maine in Lewiston meet its fundraising goal of $1 million. Slonina’s class collected the most of any grade, filling a change jar five times, the students said. John and Elizabeth Lewandowski of Lewiston matched the amount raised by the St. Dom’s students and wrote a check to the YWCA for $500. Students collected a total of $502.64.
