My first national election was 50 years ago (Kennedy vs. Nixon). I was teaching but the school was used for voting so I was free to drive people to vote. I picked up an elderly lady and I asked her if she voted in every election. She replied, “My dear, I have voted in every election since women got the vote.”
Thinking of that brought to mind some history. In 1820, Maine became a state. In 1848, the Seneca Falls convention featured a women’s rights discussion. In 1920, women finally won the right to vote.
In 2010, Maine has an excellent candidate to become the first woman governor. Libby Mitchell has outstanding qualifications. She listens and considers the issues before coming to conclusions.
She has my support.
