LEWISTON — An open house for the secondary teacher education program at USM’s Lewiston-Auburn College will be held Tuesday, Oct. 26. The open house will start at 6 p.m. in room 285 at the college, 51 Westminster St.
The new program is for those who are interested in earning a bachelor’s degree in addition to being certified to teach or as a way of earning a teaching certificate for those who already have a bachelor’s degree.
The program has four different areas of focus or tracks: Secondary Teacher Certification/Life Science Certificate; Secondary Teacher Certification/Humanities-English Certificate; Secondary Teacher Certification/Humanities-Social Studies Certificate; and Secondary Teacher Certification/Humanities-Combined English and Social Studies Certificate.
The informal open house will include a brief presentation about the program and university staff and faculty will be on hand to explain program requirements and to answer questions. Information about admissions and financial aid will also be available.
The session is free of charge and open to the public. Light refreshments will be served and there will be drawings for door prizes. Those who wish to attend are asked to call 753-6618 or register online at usm.maine.edu/lac/teachered/. Advance registration is encouraged.
