Rumford’s wind ordinance, which I have taken the time to look at, is — as stated by others — anti-wind. It is also, as stated by others, based almost verbatim on the Dixmont ordinance, only with more restrictions added.

When asked who their experts are, the selectmen sidestep the question, and none of them has been to a wind generation site in person.

Personally, I don’t have an opinion one way or another about wind power. I do know that if Rumford voters pass this ordinance, the town will be seen as anti-business by any future companies looking for a place to set up shop.

Town residents cannot afford that, nor can we afford to be swayed by the ideas of outsiders who own part-time properties here or live in another town.

It’s time to make a stand against our elected officials and tell them that we want progress, not stagnation.

Ed McCaffrey, Rumford
