LEWISTON — A basic and advanced training session in erosion and sediment control practices will take place from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 4, at the USDA Service Center, 254 Goddard Road.

The training will prepare contractors to comply with recent legislation regulating soil disturbance work within 250 feet of water bodies. The legislation will take effect on Jan. 1, 2013, and will require any contractor disturbing more than one cubic yard of soil in the shoreland zone to have the work supervised by an individual certified by DEP in erosion control practices.

The program will include lunch, refreshments and a manual. A basic and advanced session will qualify those attending to become certified by the DEP in erosion and sediment control practices.

Registration with payment of $35 must be received by Wednesday, Oct. 27. A $10 late fee will be charged for registering after the deadline or at the door. Registration form is available at www.androscogginswcd.net. Click on “Basic Erosion Control Practices” at the bottom of the home page.
