Service cancelled
STONEHAM — The Oxford County United Parish has announced that services on Sunday, Oct. 24 are cancelled. Services will resume at 10 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 31, at the Stoneham Church.
Services will be held in the North Waterford Church beginning Sunday, Nov. 7. A deacons meeting will be held Thursday, Oct. 28, at the North Waterford Church to meet with the forthcoming minister, Doretta Colburn.
The Christian Women in Service will meet at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 28, at the North Waterford Church. All women are welcome.
Kayak raffle
OXFORD — The Oxford Hills Optimist Club is selling raffle tickets for an Old Town Otter XT kayak. The lightweight kayak includes a paddle holder, adjustable foot braces, adjustable high-back folding seat and cup holder.
Tickets are $1 each or six for $5. The drawing will take place on Dec. 7. To purchase tickets, contact incoming Club President Sandi Wyman at 312-0311.

Society meeting
OXFORD — The Oxford Historical Society will meet at 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 29, at the Kay House Museum, Pleasant Street. Following a short business meeting the program topic will be presented by Percy Turner on the murders of Dr. James Littlefield and his wife Lydia on Paris Hill, that took place in October of 1937.
Two people were convicted under two different prosecution theories. There will be old photos of the case, old police reports and detective magazines.
Girl Scouts
WATERFORD — Girl Scouts of Maine will host a parent information and registration meeting at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 28, at Waterford Memorial School.

Halloween bash
PARIS — The Paris Public Library will host its third annual children’s Halloween Bash open house from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 29. Participants are invited to come in costume and play games, make crafts and have snacks. The library’s friends’ group, the Seneca Club, will distribute free books.
