BRIDGTON — Bridgton Hospital will host motivational speaker, athlete and type 2 diabetes patient Tim Dolan, from Ft. Collins, Colo., at 6 p.m. Friday, Nov. 12, in the clinic lobby of the hospital.
It will be an opportunity for diabetic patients and their families to hear about the challenges Dolan faced, and conquered, when diagnosed with type 2 diabetes, said Linda Russell, RD/LD, hospital dietitian and diabetes educator.
Diagnosed with type 2 diabetes in 2002 during a routine physical, Dolan first tried diabetes pills, neglecting to make any changes in diet and exercise. Eventually, his condition got his attention when he was diagnosed with complications from uncontrolled blood sugar.
After having bypass surgery in April 2007, he added diet, exercise and insulin to his diabetes treatment plan. Today, he is a part of “Team Type 2,” a patient-led approach to diabetes education from the Sanofi-Aventis A1C Champions Program.
The session is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be served and reservations are requested. Call Russell at 647-6062.
