I doubt that a casino in Lewiston would bring in much money. The 3 percent offered by the casino officials is only 3 cents out of a dollar.

I hear from Native Americans in other states that they do not get much financial support from casinos there.

I went to Hollywood Slots in Bangor. I didn’t see many workers there, only kitchen crew, waitresses and doormen.

There is enough gambling going on already — bingo, Megabucks, Powerball, scratch tickets. Where are the improvements sought? Downtown is still deserted. The streets are full of potholes and people are still on welfare. Hospital bills are not paid.

With all the money already spent on gambling, do people call that progress?
