LIVERMORE FALLS — Residents here voted 593-458 on Tuesday to accept $258,700 in federal grants and to borrow up to $326,300 to replace the sewer system on a stretch of Main Street.

The Livermore Falls Sewer Department plans to replace an aging sewer system when the state rebuilds a 1.1-mile section of the street, also known as Route 4, from Bridge Street in Livermore Falls to Pineau Street in Jay.

The town’s share of the project is expected to be about $600,000.

Jay Sewer Department and Livermore Falls Water District also plan to replace sewer and water lines.

In another vote, Regional School Unit 36 Director Jackie Knight won the opportunity to complete a term to June 2012 on the Board of Directors.

Knight, a former selectman and school board member, was appointed by selectmen to fill the seat vacated by Mac Haynes until Tuesday’s election.
