AUBURN — Louise B. Canedy, 64, of 106 Bowdoinham Road, Sabattus, died Tuesday, Nov. 2, at the Hospice House, following a seven year courageous battle with multiple myeloma, and with her family by her side.
She was born in Lewiston, the daughter of Louis and Muguette Bourget. Educated in local schools, she was a graduate of Lewiston High School, Class of 1964, and later graduated from the Gorham State Teachers College.
She began her career as an elementary school teacher and then for 30 years owned and operated Ridge Nursery School. She was affectionately known as “Mammy” to her grandchildren, and as “Miss Louise” to much of the community.
She was an accomplished seamstress and craftsperson, and her family wraps themselves in love with her hand-made fleece blankets. She also, alongside her mother, made all of her daughter’s wedding dresses.
Besides her loving husband of Sabattus, she is survived by a son, Nicholas and wife, Chelsea, of Durham; four daughters, Kim and husband, Steve Duncan, of Torrington, Conn., Kelly and husband, Bradford Lestage, of Ipswich, Mass., Amy and husband, Christopher Sylvia, of Gorham and Amanda and husband, Randall Salso, of Gorham; two brothers, Arthur Bourget and wife, Doris, of Lewiston and Richard Bourget and wife, Cyndi, of Litchfield; a sister, Jo Ann and husband, Roland Daigle, of Lewiston; a former sister-in-law, Marilyn Newell, of Hebron; and seven grandchildren, Gabriel and Ariana Duncan, Wilton, Azaraih, and Marlee Lestage, and Thomas and Acadia Sylvia.
She was predeceased by her first husband, Robert Bergeron; and on May 7, 1976, she married Paul Canedy.
