Mechanic Falls transfer station attendant Kathryn Oaks displays one of the T-shirts designed by Town Manager John Hawley that proclaim the dump to be “The prettiest little dump in Maine.” The T-shirts were inspired by the garden that Oaks and fellow attendant and master gardener Lydia Fisher developed last year using bits and pieces of items such as dishes, old birdhouses and pottery, that residents were bringing to the dump on Pigeon Hill to recycle mixed in with wildflowers, including tall sunflowers. The garden encircles the attendants’ station and hopper. The T-shirts are on sale at the transfer station or by calling the town hall.
