PORTLAND — Two songwriting giants — Lyle Lovett and John Hiatt — will take the stage together Friday, Jan. 14, at the State Theatre. The two, who have been touring together in one fashion or another since 1989, will perform alternating songs from throughout their careers.

 One of the most distinctive songwriters to come out of Nashville, four-time Grammy Award winner Lovett is equally comfortable in pop, rock, blues and country. Initially pegged as a country singer, Lovett’s career has expanded far beyond Nashville, attracting fans from a wide spectrum of musical genres, including rock and American roots.

 Eleven-time Grammy nominee Hiatt melds rock, acoustic, folk, new wave and Mississippi Delta blues into songs recorded by an impressive roster of fans over the last three decades, including the Neville Brothers, Ronnie Milsap, Bonnie Raitt, Bob Dylan, Willie Nelson and Bruce Springsteen.
