OXFORD — Selectmen voted to hold a public hearing on proposed amendments to the town’s zoning, mass gathering and medical marijuana ordinances.
The hearing is set for Jan. 6. The board will hear feedback from the public and may modify the proposed changes before they go to a vote at town meeting.
Town Manager Michael Chammings said the zoning changes would raise building height restrictions on Route 26 from 35 to 65 feet and would free hotels and motels from a one-unit-per-acre limit. The current ordinance would restrict the hotel planned at Black Bear Four Seasons Resort and Casino to 100 units. The development is planned for a 100-acre lot beside Route 26 on Pigeon Hill.
The mass gathering ordinance would require notifying neighbors of application hearings before large gatherings such as the Nateva Festival held at the Oxford Fairgrounds in July.
For medical marijuana, the amendments include security requirements for medical marijuana clinics and buffer zones of 500 feet from residences, day care centers and churches, and 1,000 feet from schools.
It would also ban marijuana consumption on the premises of a dispensary, except by employees who are also patients.
