AUBURN — The group charged with rewriting the rules for Androscoggin County government has three more members.
Lawrence Moreau of Poland, Garret Mason of Lisbon and Randall Greenwood — the chairman of the Androscoggin County Commission, of Wales — were appointed Wednesday to the county’s Charter Commission.
They’ll join six people elected Nov. 2 in a 13-way race.
County commissioners made the appointments despite objections that the three people didn’t represent all three of the county’s district, leaving Lewiston with two people on the nine-member group, despite having the greatest share of the county’s population.
Elaine Makas, who represents Lewiston on the County Commission, said she was worried that the charter might lean too far toward smaller towns.
“I am concerned with having only two people from the largest part of the county in terms of population,” she said. Charter Commissioner Dick Grandmaison of Lewiston agreed.
He said he believes Lewiston will be under represented.
However, Makas was outvoted by Greenwood and Commissioner Jonathan LaBonte.
LaBonte said he was fine with the nominees, especially since the statute did not demand equal representation by the appointees.
“My interest is in seeing quality people at the table,” he said.
Moreau, Mason and Greenwood will be joined by Richard Gross of Turner, Scott Lansley of Sabattus, Robert Mennealy and Charles “Chip” Morrison of Auburn and Grandmaison and Helen Poulin of Lewiston.
