LEWISTON — Glorio L. Marchand, 87, of Lewiston died on Thursday, Dec. 9, at his residence following a short illness.
He was born in St. Camille de Wolfe, P.Q., Canada, May 13, 1923, the son of Alphonse and Oziline (Cloutier) Marchand and had been a resident of this community all of his life.
He was married to the former Alda Daigle, whom he married in July of 1948; she died on Oct. 7, 1958.
He was employed as a card stripper in the local textile industry for many years. After going to work at the Hill Mill, Glorio and his favorite brother-in-law, Andy Lepage, painted buildings as a second income.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served in World War II from Feb. 8, 1943 to Oct. 24, 1945, and was awarded a Purple Heart.
Glorio was a member of the Pastime Club, League of the Sacred Heart, St. Mary’s Bowling League and played softball for St. Mary’s Parish.
He loved the Boston Red Sox, Atlanta Braves and the Montreal Canadians. He also loved fishing, playing bingo instant lottery tickets and going out to eat at Chick-a-Dee in Lewiston, Egg-Ceptional and The Settlement.
He is survived by one son, Gerald Marchand of Lewiston; one daughter, Linda Marchand of Lewiston; two sisters, Arline Lepage and Rolande Beaule, both of Lewiston; several nieces and nephews; and his cat, “Smokey.”
He was predeceased by two brothers, Albert and Jules Marchand; and five sisters, Connie Beaule, Mignonne Chamberlain, Armande Beaudoin, Simonne St. Hilaire and Germaine Dubuc.
