CANTON, GA. — Jo Ann Hannon, 76, of Georgia, formerly of Wayne and East Wilton, died Thursday, Dec. 9, in Canton, Ga., as a result of complications from Alzheimer’s.
She was born Feb. 20, 1934, in Haxton, Colo., the daughter of Clifford and Martha (Becker) Wilterding. She grew up in Denver and on Nov. 10, 1955, married Ernest I. Hannon. She was a 1974 graduate of UMF, earning a degree in elementary education. She was employed at SAD 36 in Livermore Falls for more than 20 years, enriching the lives of many children in the elementary and middle school.
After serving as president of the Androscoggin Women’s Bowling Association for several terms, she founded the Mt. Blue Women’s Bowling Association. She was a Hall of Fame honoree from both the Lewiston-Auburn and the Farmington Women’s Bowling Associations. Jo Ann created and directed junior choirs at Henderson Memorial Baptist Church in Farmington and the Wayne Community Church.
She loved to travel and had been to all 50 states and most of the provinces in Canada as to Holland and several other countries. She lived in an Indian Village north of the Arctic Circle in Alaska and wrote her master’s thesis on American Indians of Maine. She loved her family, friends, bowling and music. She actively lived her faith and loved the Lord.
She is survived by their children, son, Clifford G. Hannon and his wife, Dale, of Oakland; daughter, Irene M. Misencik and her husband, Michael, of Marietta, Ga.; brother, Clinton Wilterding of Anchorage, Alaska; and three grandchildren, Katherine A. and James M. Misencik and Gavin M. Hannon.
She was predeceased in 2004 by her beloved husband, Ernest.
