FARMINGTON — A local man remained in jail on Thursday accused of breaking into lockers and stealing items at the University of Maine Fitness and Recreation Center on Quebec Street.

Items taken included wallets, cash, identification and credit cards, UMF Police Chief Ted Blais said.

After an investigation, Ryan Brann, 32, of Farmington was arrested on charges of felony burglary and theft on Tuesday night, Blais said. Brann is being held on $10,000 cash bail and is expected to appear in Franklin County Superior Court on Friday.

Brann’s girlfriend, April Auger, 33, of Farmington was also arrested on a charge of violating condition of release, Blais said. She is associated with the thefts, he said.

Auger has no bail set and is expected to appear Friday in court.

Blais said seven individuals had their lockers, some locked and some not, broken into on Sunday and Monday. The majority of lockers entered were in the men’s locker room.

After reviewing a security camera video of the front desk area, he started to review records of what happened. One of the victims came into Blais’ office and identified a person who he said was acting suspicious to him while he was at the center, Blais said.

He made a small film clip of the suspect and discovered that this same man had a suspicious incident at a business on Intervale Road in Farmington where he tried to use an ATM card, Blais said.

From two sources, police were able to put the man in the tape at the center when thefts occurred, he said. Further review of the tape also showed that the man’s girlfriend was with him at times.

Blais said he went to 141 Oakes St., the couple’s residence, to talk to them and no one was home. He drafted a search warrant and received it and with help from Farmington Police Department, Franklin County Sheriff’s Department and Maine Drug Enforcement Agency, they searched the apartment.

“We found evidence of the theft,” he said.
