OXFORD — The Oxford Hills School District Board of Directors voted unanimously Monday to extend Superintendent Rick Colpitts’ contract by one year.

“It’s very reaffirming,” Colpitts said of the board’s vote that will extend his contract until 2014.

Colpitts was appointed superintendent last spring, replacing former superintendent Mark Eastman on July 1. Eastman retired in July after holding the post for 15 years.

The motion to extend Colpitts’ contract was made after a 30-plus-minute executive session.

Although the board unanimously voted in May to give Colpitts a three-year contract with an annual salary of $103,000, Monday night’s action was done to meet a statutory requirement that all superintendents be evaluated by December of each year.

“I got some great feedback,” he said of the board’s performance evaluation. Colpitts said he met with the personnel committee prior to meeting with the full board.

Colpitts came on board with the Oxford Hills School District several years ago under a pilot program that employed him as a half-time assistant superintendent. He was serving as part-time superintendent of the SAD 39 (Buckfield, Hartford and Sumner) at the time. After a one-year pilot program as assistant superintendent, he was brought on full time.
