LEWISTON — Police are investigating a reported sex assault involving a young girl and a group of juvenile boys.

Lt. Mark Cornelio of the Lewiston Police Department said a number of juveniles were interviewed at the station Tuesday and police are looking at four of the boys as “strong suspects” while others are being sought.

He declined to release further details of the incident, which is being investigated by Detective Jim Theiss.

Police did not say where the reported incident occurred other than that the girl came in contact with the boys while she was on her way home from school Monday afternoon.

All involved are juveniles, said police Chief Michael Bussiere, although he declined to release their ages.

On Wednesday, none of the juveniles interviewed by police had been detained, Cornelio said, and no charges had been filed.
