This is in response to the Sun Journal editorial “Maine Dems need new leader and new direction” (Dec. 29). The editorial claimed that Janet Mills was “one of six candidates in the running to lead the Democratic Party in Maine, according to the Portland Press Herald.”
“According to the Portland Press Herald”? Seriously? Is this what passes for journalism these days? Did the editorial’s author realize a quick search of the Maine Democratic Party’s website would indicate that the source is inaccurate, and that you are not reporting, but spreading rumors? You should be forming your opinions based on actual facts.
A slate of highly qualified and eager candidates for Maine’s Democratic Party chairman includes Stephanie Clifford, Ben Grant, John Hanson, Bil Moriarty and Marianne Stevens. All are active in our party and committed to our success. However, I believe the most qualified candidate is Melissa Sterry, current chairman of our finance committee. A decorated combat veteran, Sterry’s experience in logistics, her extensive work on such national campaigns as Howard Dean’s, and her fundraising history are essential to our party’s future success.
Anyone serious about the Maine Democratic Party’s future will seriously consider Sterry’s candidacy.
