AUBURN — George W. “Moose” Maxwell Sr., 71, a resident of Livermore Falls, died early Wednesday, Jan. 5, at Hospice House of Androscoggin.

He was born March 14, 1939, in Lewiston, the son of Clifton “Joe” Maxwell and Christine (Webster) Maxwell. He was a 1957 graduate of Leavitt Institute in Turner.

On April 3, 1959, in North Turner, he married Lorretta M. Hutchins. He worked for Raymond Lovewell Farm in Livermore; IP at the Otis Mill in Jay; Century Elm Farm in Livermore; and drove school bus and was a custodian for Livermore Falls School SAD 36 until his retirement.

After his retirement, George enjoyed helping at Livermore Falls Bakery that is owned by his son. He was an avid sports fan, but was especially fond of the Boston Red Sox, Patriots and NASCAR. His greatest pleasure was watching his children during their sporting events.

He is survived by his wife, Lorretta Maxwell of Livermore Falls; three sons, George W. Maxwell Jr. and his wife, Mary, of Gardiner, Timothy Maxwell and his wife, Darlene, of Manchester and Tony Maxwell and wife, Terri, of Livermore; his daughter, Tina Louise Berggren and her husband, James, of Livermore Falls; 15 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; two brothers and their wives, Stanley and Carolyn Maxwell of Livermore and Robert and Doreen Maxwell of Hartford; three sisters, Jessie Mitchell of Livermore, Sylvia Lee and her husband, Reggie, of Jay and Marilyn Black of Winthrop; his brother-in-law, Vinton Hutchins, sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Thomas and Beverly Berry, all of North Turner; many nieces and nephews; and his faithful dog, Simon.

He was predeceased by his parents; his in-laws, Leslie and Mabel Hutchins; his granddaughter, Barbara Joan Maxwell; his sister-in-law, Jean Hutchins; and his niece, Leslie Jean Hutchins Bodge.
