Recently, I went to the hospice in Auburn to visit a friend who is nearing the end of his life. Not what I wanted to do but, in some way, I needed to.
As I walked in the front door, I heard one of the most beautiful sounds that I have heard in a long time. There was a lady sitting there and playing a Celtic harp in the hallway space under what would have been a skylight if the sun had been shining.
There was no jar to put tips in or a case to throw money into, just a wonderful woman sharing a gift for all to hear as people walked by or to do, as I did, and stop, sit on the bench, and just listen to the sounds of that harp.
So when the times come in our lives when we become cynical with all that is going on in this world and in our personal lives, when we are about to give up on everyone, just remember this sweet lady, who just shares her gift with others for some peace in their dying days.
I don’t know her name, but may God bless her.
