This is in response to the story, “Auburn lawmaker wants to limit hospital exec’s pay” (Jan. 6).

I really hate to see a “charitable nonprofit institution” hide its profits in buying nursing homes, doctors’ practices, rehabilitation facilities, as well as offering cushy executive salaries. It then enjoys the benefit of those tax breaks and government reimbursements to pour more money into expanding its “nonprofit” holdings.

I would much rather see those efforts put into lowering the costs and limiting the need for a state-sponsored health care insurance.

We generally overlook greed as one of the sources of high health care costs, but I also don’t believe you can legislate against greed.

I suspect the lobbyists at the State House will again be able to kill anything not in the special interests of their employers.
