AUBURN — Senior guard Timmy Mains and sophomore forward Quin Leary compiled 15 points each to lead Edward Little to a 60-41 win over Erskine Academy in KVAC boys’ basketball action Friday.

Though the Eagles (1-8) kept pace in the first quarter, the Red Eddies (8-1) pressured and forced many turnovers over the next two quarters to define the tempo.

Senior center Bowen Leary pitched in with 11 points for Edward Little.

Junior guard Shyler Scates led the Eagles with 12 points in the losing effort.

Mt. Blue 53, Messalonskee 49

FARMINGTON — Mt. Blue used a strong second quarter to build a double-digit lead by halftime and held off Messalonskee for a 53-49 KVAC win Friday.

The Cougars (8-2) outscored the Eagles (3-7) 14-5 in the second quarter to take a 24-14 lead at the half. Messalonskee used a 21-15 fourth quarter to trim the lead, but the Cougars hit free throws down the stretch to preserve the win.

Cam Sennick had 10 points and nine rebounds for the Cougars while Blake Hart also had 10 points. Dom Clements and Eric Berry each added nine. The Eagles were led by Luke Bartlett with 11 and Kegan McPherson with 10.

Winthrop 36, Lisbon 28

WINTHROP — Winthrop outscored Lisbon 17-10 in the second half to pull away for a 36-28 victory in MVC boys’ basketball action.

Lisbon (0-10) led by a point after the first quarter, but Winthrop took a one-point point lead at the midway point.

Tyler Foster and Billy Gordon paced the Ramblers (6-4) with 11 points apiece and each netting a 3-pointer. Foster also hauled down six rebounds. Ryan Conant chipped in with nine points also hit a shot from behind the arc.

Lisbon guard Mike Degou led all scorers with 12 points. Degou sank four 3-point baskets in the loss.

Telstar 82, Carrebec 9

BETHEL — 11 different players hit the scoring column, including four in double digits, as Telstar downed Carrebec 82-9 in a MVC boys’ basketball game.

Senior Daniel Vaughn led all scorers with 19 points, followed by Ben Field’s 12. Corey Howard chipped in with eleven points as Dom Haines netted 10 points for the Rebels (7-3).

Nick Bowman led the Cobras (0-10) with three points.

Brunswick 53, Oxford Hills 42

SOUTH PARIS — Brunswick used the 3-point basket to its advantage, scoring all 12 second quarter points on 3’s as the Dragons defeated Oxford Hills 53-42 in KVAC boys’ basketball game.

Trailing 17-9 after the first frame, the Vikings (3-8) clawed back into the game in the second quarter, only to be match with the Dragon’s efforts from behind the arc.

Mitch Black and Alex Ouellette led Brunswick (6-4) each netting 14 points in the victory. Black sank a pair of 3-pointers, while dishing out seven assists. Ouellette hauled down a game high 13 rebounds.

Junior forward Deric Hanscom led all scorers with 15 points and added 11 rebounds for Oxford Hills. Dan Taylor added 14 points for the Vikings, while Jordan Croteau grabbed nine rebounds in the loss.

Boothbay 63, Monmouth 53

BOOTHBAY — Boothbay hit 12 of 15 free-throws in the fourth quarter to cement its 63-53 victory over Monmouth in MVC action.

Both teams played to a first-half tie at 22-22 before Boothbay outran the Mustangs 21-13 in the third quarter to take the commanding lead.

Monmouth attempted to mount a comeback in the fourth quarter, but the Seahawks’ accuracy from the free-throw line made the difference.

Dan Dickinson led all scorers with 21 points for Boothbay, including a pair of 3-pointers. Chad Carroll netted 14 points and grabbed nine boards for Boothbay (8-2) in the win.

Senior guard Tim Whitmore paced the Mustangs (7-3) with 19 points, including a couple of 3-pointers. Roger Bachelder added 17 points.

Cony 68, Lewiston 57

LEWISTON — Tied after three quarters, Cony pulled away in the fourth quarter for a 68-57 victory over Lewiston in a KVAC boys’ basketball game Friday.

Cony (6-5) held a 31-24 lead at the half, but the Blue Devils (5-7) roared back to tie the game at 46-46 entering the final period. Cony limited Lewiston to 11 fourth-quarter points to pull away.

Shawn Ricker led Lewiston with 18 points, including three 3-pointers. Corbin Hyde added 11 points.

Walker Cooper paced the Rams with a game-high 21 points.

Forest Hills 47, Rangeley 31

JACKMAN — Sophomore guard Evan Worster recorded a game-high 17 points to lead Forest Hills to a 47-31 victory over Rangeley in EWC boys’ basketball action Friday.

The Lakers (5-3) missed 14 layups in the first quarter, much to their dismay, as they outscored the Tigers (7-3) by a margin of 19-3 in the final frame.

Senior forward Dylan McNally posted a double-double with 12 points and 13 rebounds for Forest Hills. Joey Gilbert chipped in with nine points and 12 rebounds.

Junior guard Alex Morton led the Lakers with 12 points in the losing effort.

Nokomis 59, Oak Hill 42

NEWPORT — Junior guard Chris Braley pocketed an impressive 29 points to power Nokomis to a 59-42 victory over Oak Hill in KVAC boys’ basketball action Friday.

The Warriors (7-3) jumped out to a 15-7 lead in the first quarter. Spencer Hartsgrove contributed 11 points for Nokomis.

The Raiders (3-6) knocked down the deficit to within six points in the third quarter, but Nokomis hit free throws and forced turnovers down the stretch.

Freshman forward Parker Asselin led Oak Hill with 13 points, while Cam Morin added 11 points in the losing effort.

Mtn. Valley 70, Madison 42

RUMFORD — Senior point guard Cameron Kaubris led an agressive offense with 26 points as Mtn. Valley preyed on Madison for a 70-42 win in MVC boys’ basketball action Friday.

The Falcons (10-0) got things going with a 28-15 lead in the first half, and stoked the flames with a 21-10 run in the third quarter. Izaak Mills contributed 16 points, while Jacob Theriault pitched in with 15 points.

Senior center Ian Hartigan led the Bulldogs (3-7) with 17 points, while Seth Sweet chipped in with 13 points in the losing effort.

Gould 42, Hyde 26

BATH — Senior center Abe Bartlett perfected 18 points to lead Gould to a 42-26 victory over Hyde School in boys’ basketball action Friday.

The Huskies (3-3) held Hyde School to six first half points for an 18-6 lead at the midpoint. Bartlett tossed eight field goals and two free throws.

Wilson Macmillan paced the Pheonix (8-4) with five field goals, including two from 3-point range, and a single from the charity stripe for 13 points in the losing effort.
