LEWISTON — St. Dom’s overcame a goal in the opening minute of the game by Sam Dexter to overpower Messalonskee 6-1 in high school hockey action Thursday.
Cody Rodrigue led the Saints with two goals and an assist, Spencer Martin added a pair of goals, Danny Nadeau registered a goal and four assists and Dakota Keene added a goal in the victory.
Dexter’s goal for Messalonskee (3-5-1) was the lone blemish on St. Dom’s sophomore Austin Christopher’s sheet. He stopped eight of nine to earn the win.
The Saints (7-2-0) peppered Nate Degiudice with 58 shots, and the Messalonskee keeper held strong, making 52 saves in the loss.
Boys’ basketball
Telstar 53, Winthrop 38
BETHEL — Dan Vaughn gave Telstar (9-3) a head start when he scored 10 of his 22 points in the first quarter as the Rebels sidestepped Winthrop (6-6) with a 53-38 victory in a boys’ basketball game Thursday night.
Elek Pew scored 13 points for the Rebels, who fought off a stubborn Winthrop in the second half. For the Ramblers, Ryan Conant scored 18 points and teammate Billy Gordon dropped in 14.
The Rebels cruised to a 35-14 lead by halftime before the Ramblers erupted with 15 points in the third quarter.
Girls’ basketball
Winthrop 46, Telstar 31
BETHEL — Nikki Scott threw in eight of her 14 points in the first half and Sarah Warner added 10 for the night as Winthrop whipped Telstar, 46-31, in a girls’ basketball game Thursday night.
The Ramblers built a 23-12 lead by halftime.
The Rebels got help from Cheyanne Day, who collected 14 rebounds and blocked three shots to go along with her eight points. Emma Davis and Nicena Walker each scored nine points, including a 3-pointer from Walker in the fourth quarter.
Mountain Valley 44, St. Dom’s 35
AUBURN — St. Dom’s stayed close for the first half against Mountain Valley before the Falcons (8-4) pulled away in the second half and collected a 44-35 victory in a girls’ basketball game Thursday night.
Ayla Allen led all Mountain Valley scorers with 15 points. The Saints (6-6) were lead by Allaina Murphy, who punched up 20 game-high points.
Women’s Basketball
CMCC 70, NHTI 53
CONCORD, N.H. — Central Maine Community College allowed just 16 first-half points and received a season-high 15 points from freshman guard Jaime Swart in a 70-52 victory over New Hampshire Technical Institute on Thursday.
Danielle McCusker drained a game-high 24 points and eight rebounds for the Mustangs (9-9). Teira Durgin tallied eight points and eight boards, Kayla Ellis added eight points and seven assists, while Danielle Hebert scored six and pulled down eight. Tiffany Lougee scored four points and hauled down a season-high seven boards.
Jess Hardiman paced the Lynx (7-8) with 22 points and Moriah Mahala added eight.
The win moves the Mustangs to 8-0 in Yankee Small College Conference competition.
