ROXBURY — G. June Taylor, 97, died peacefully at her residence in Roxbury on Sunday, Jan. 23.
She was born in Augusta, June 17, 1913, the daughter of Edward and Jane (Mitchell) Freeman. She graduated from Gardiner High School, Class of 1931 and Farmington Normal School, Class of 1936, with her degree in education.
June was an elementary school teacher and taught at Cony High School in Augusta, then at the Rumford Elementary School and then at the Mexico Elementary School and retired in 1974, after more than 20 years as a teacher.
Over the years, she had been active in the Rumford Community Hospital Auxiliary and had chaired the hospital fair several years. She was a member of the Town and Country Club.
June was married in Salisbury, Mass., on Aug. 15, 1940 to Oscar M. “Skid” Taylor, who died in Rumford on March 26, 1996.
Survivors include her daughter, Mary Ellen Scribner and husband, David, of South Portland; granddaughter, Lisa Scribner and her husband, Stephen Sturtevant, of Mason, Ohio; great-granddaughter, Chelsea Sturtevant of Mason, Ohio; and a brother, Phillip Freeman of Brunswick.
