AUGUSTA — Well-known mime, actor, songsmith and storyteller Jackson Gillman will perform Saturday, Feb. 19, at the Maine State Museum.
The free event, geared to children and adults of all ages, will begin at 11 a.m.
Gillman’s interactive performance, “Once Upon a Tide: Sea Songs and Stories,” will feature a rollicking, fishy repertoire from the sandy beach to the briny deep. One story, with sign language interpretation, will be “The Mermaid of Storms,” by Mary Calhoun.
The museum, which offers four floors of exhibits, will be open free of charge that day.
Performing for more than 30 years, Gillman uses his background in mime and dance to distinguish his storytelling style. His interactive performances are seasoned with skillful dialect, song, dance, mime and sign language.
Gillman has been featured at the National Storytelling Festival in Tennessee and, for 15 years, hosted a summer concert series on Mt. Desert Island. He has been a keynote presenter and performer at schools, libraries, conferences and festivals throughout the country.
