WEST PARIS — A West Paris man was left homeless Sunday evening after fire ripped through his Bethel Road home.
Chief Brad Frost of the Paris Fire Department said that homeowner Nicholas Kontos was in town doing laundry when the fire started around 1:45 p.m. Someone driving by on Route 26, also known as Bethel Road, noticed the flames and called for help.
By the time crews arrived on scene, Frost said the home was fully engulfed and firefighters could only battle the blaze from outside.
“It was strictly an exterior attack. We couldn’t get inside,” Frost said.”The building was completely involved when we arrived on scene.”

Frost said that the one-story wood home was considered a complete loss. He added that a cause had not yet been determined. An investigator with the State Fire Marshal’s Office will be on scene Monday to investigate the blaze.
Frost said that more than 25 firefighters from seven agencies assisted. In addition to Paris and West Paris, fire crews from Norway, Oxford and Woodstock responded to the fire, as well as crews from Tri Town Ambulance and the Oxford Fire Police.
