POLAND — All candidates for election to town government posts have been invited to participate in a candidates’ forum that will be held virtually this year.
The meeting, sponsored by Friends of Ricker Library, will begin at 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 3. Those interested can find the Zoom link on the town website, on its Facebook page and in the town newsletter.
Five candidates — Joseph Cimino, Nathan McNally, Jane Pentheny, Peter Starastecki and James Walker — are seeking election to the Poland Board of Selectpersons; voters will elect two. Christine Downs is running to fill one of two open positions on the Regional School Unit 16 board of directors. Lionel Ferland is running for a three-year term on the budget committee; he is unopposed.
Questions for candidates can be emailed to [email protected] before 4 p.m. March 3 and will be asked by Randy La Claire, moderator. Alternatively, audience members will be able to ask their own questions during the forum.
Absentee ballots will be available Tuesday, March 2, and town election will be held on Friday, April 2. Polls will be open from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. that day. There will be no in-person town meeting this year.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
