BETHEL — Plans are moving ahead to find a new site for the District Exchange, which is an area food bank and place for those in need to get clothing and other items.

The next meeting of the group is 6:30 p.m. March 10 at Crescent Park Elementary School.

The Exchange has been located in the basement of the former Ethel Bisbee School for 19 years. A move was prompted by a decision from the SAD 44 board to relocate the central offices from upstairs at the Ethel Bisbee School to a less costly, more efficient space at Norway Savings Bank early this coming summer.

Cathy Newell, an original member of the group that got the District Exchange going in 1992, said about a half-dozen potential spaces have been identified.

At the March 10 meeting the status of each will be updated.

“There are possibilities, but there are budgetary concerns,” Newell said.

The food bank serves about 50 families a month, and the clothing exchange is used by hundreds of people each year.
