Lenten study

NORWAY — The Blessed Teresa of Calcutta Parish Lenten Scripture Study and Discussion Program will begin Monday, March 7, and run through Friday, April 15.

Small groups of eight to 10 people will meet once a week. They will discuss the scripture readings for Lent in light of commentary and discussion questions from the Rev. Clement Thibodeau’s “Echoing God’s Word” series.

The groups will meet at a variety of day and evening times at locations in and near Our Lady of Ransom, Mechanic Falls, and St. Catherine’s. For more information, contact Elaine at the parish office, 743-2606.

Christian women

PARIS — Christian Women United will meet at 9:30 a.m. Friday, March 4, at the First Congregation Church, 17 East Main St., South Paris. The subject will on United and other topics. Refreshments will be served after the meeting.

Custodians’ auction

PARIS — The annual SAD 17 Head Custodians’ Chinese Auction will be held Saturday, March 5, in the Oxford Hills Comprehensive High School cafeteria. It is their largest fundraiser and the funds are for scholarships the organization awards to students furthering their education.

There are more than 200 items to win, including a TV,  gift certificates, gas cards, an upright vacuum and handmade quilts.

Doors will open at 11 a.m. and the auction will start at 1 p.m. There will be a bake sale, 50/50 raffle, grab bags, hot dogs, chips and soda during the auction.

Clothing center

HARTFORD — Hartford Community Church Clothing Center will be open from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Saturdays, March 5 and 19. The center is located on Church Street, opposite the Hartford Community Church.

Church service

PARIS — Ben Tucker will lead the 10 a.m. service at the First Universalist Church, 36 Pine St., South Paris, on Sunday, March 6. Forest Perkins will direct the music and Renee Wales will lead the Sunday school. The coffee hour will follow in Good Cheer Hall. All are welcome.

Daughters meet

NORWAY — Hannah F. Richardson Tent 19, Daughters of Union Veterans of the Civil War, held the first meeting of the new year on Feb. 23 at the home of Marilyn Jones.

There were seven members in attendance, and the meeting was called to order at 7 p.m. by President Marilyn Jones.

Lynn Cummings-Pike was secretary pro tem and Deanna Merchant was patriotic instructor pro tem in the absence of Dorothy Morency and Wanda Ryerson.

Weather permitting, the next meeting will be held in Stoneham on Wednesday, March 23.
