To the Editor:
I am writing this letter to ask the citizens of Woodstock to support the article, at the April 26th town meeting, that deals with the acquisition of the Buck’s Ledge property.
The Buck’s Ledge trails are wonderful for family hiking, and on any given day the parking lot there is filled with cars. Driving by you can see groups of friends and family, with people of all ages, headed up to the trails. This has been especially important during our Covid Pandemic. Families and friends have used this trail as a way to get outside and keep active in a safe way.
The plan to connect the logging road to Buck’s and Lapham Ledge Trails to the nature trail at Woodstock Elementary School is particularly exciting. It will give the staff and students additional opportunities for outdoor environmental education. They will be able to get to the trails right from their school. It is so important that we raise children who understand and respect Maine’s land and become stewards of it.
Article 6 of the town’s warrant asks approval to use the money presently in the dedicated land conservation account to support this acquisition, with no additional town funds required. Please consider supporting this article on April 26th.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
