OXFORD — A Raymond man suffered serious head injuries Monday evening when his motorcycle collided with a van turning off Route 26 near Honey Badger Restaurant.
Kevin Carter, 53, driving a 2021 Harley-Davidson with a temporary plate, began passing a line of vehicles heading south, according to witness statements, Oxford Police Department Capt. Rickie Jack said.
The lead vehicle, a 2015 Ford Transit van driven by Deirdre T. Malley, 37, of Oxford, turned left onto Norway Lane near the restaurant, Jack said. Carter had already committed to pass the van and collided with the left side of the vehicle.
Carter, who was wearing a helmet, was rushed by ambulance to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston with a head injury, where he was still being held Tuesday morning.
The accident occurred at 8:23 p.m. and authorities were forced to close Route 26 for a short time, Jack said. The scene was cleared by 10:30 p.m.
Dan Hansen of the Maine State Police assisted in the reconstruction of the crash, Jack said, and the investigation is continuing.
