FARMINGTON — An electric heater fire created heavy smoke in Olsen Student Center at the University of Maine at Farmington late Friday night.

Farmington Fire and Rescue was called at about 11 p.m. to a ceiling heating unit fire in the hallway near South Dining Hall, Deputy Chief Clyde Ross said. The unit caught fire from a suspected electrical problem.

Some water was used on the unit and firefighters used exhaust fans to clear the building, Ross said.
