Norman R. Couture
AUBURN – Norman R. Couture, 82, of Auburn, passed away peacefully at home with his wife by his side on May 19, 2021, after a long illness. Norm was born in Lewiston on Feb. 3, 1939, the son of Romeo and Blanche (Poirier) Couture.Norm is survived by his wife of 60 years, Pauline, daughter, Dr. Denise Couture Bell, DC and her husband, John of Kennebunk, and their children, Maeve Lea Bell and Nolan Bell, daughter Ann Couture Libby and her husband, Mark of Hampton, N.H., and their children, Kyle Libby and his wife Emmaline, Derek Libby, Selia Libby Quinn and her husband Kevin, son, James (Jim) Couture and his wife Rebecca, of Westbrook, and a sister, Sr. Therese Couture of the Good Shepherd Sisters of Quebec in Biddeford.He was educated in Lewiston, graduating from St. Dominic High School, class of ‘57. He then joined the Navy, serving from 1958 to 1960 aboard the Destroyer USS Abbot DD629. After his honorable discharge, he returned to Lewiston, and on June 4, 1960, married his high school sweetheart, Pauline Grenier.His career was in banking, working at Peoples Savings Bank (now TD Bank) from 1963 to 2001, and he completed the Brown University Graduate School of Savings Bank. After retiring from the bank, he was employed part time at Androscoggin Title Co. as a closing agent for eight years. He served on several organizational committees and boards, and served the City of Lewiston as Chairman of the Zoning Board and Chairman of the Finance Committee.He enjoyed tennis, cross country skiing, camping at Hermit Island and golf. He was very proud of his two holes-in-one, one in Florida and one in Maine. He enjoyed golfing with his friends, but most of all he enjoyed his Friday golf with his son, Jim.Norm and Pauline enjoyed traveling and became Florida snowbirds for 18 years. They are still in touch with the many friends they made in Florida. Norm was often heard saying “Life is good,” and he was always the life of the party.Norm’s family was everything to him and he was very proud of his three children and spending as much time as possible with his five grandchildren. He enjoyed the many gatherings with family and friends. Some of his last words were “I love you all”.Norm would like to send a special thank you to the many nurses from Androscoggin Home Health and Hospice for the wonderful care he received, especially Mary J. and Becky H.Services will be held Friday, 1 p.m., in the Upper Church of Ss. Peter and Paul Basilica.
