AUBURN — Landon Pope, son of Chris and Mary Pope and a seventh-grade student at Auburn Middle School, won the school-level competition of the National Geographic Bee on Jan. 6.

He recently qualified for the state National Geographic Bee by scoring among the top 100 in Maine on a written qualifier test. Pope will represent his school at the state competition on Friday, April 1, at the University of Maine, Farmington.

The National Geographic Society will provide an all-expense-paid trip to Washington, D.C., for the state champions and teacher-escorts to participate in the National Geographic Bee national championship on May 24 and 25. The first-place national winner will receive a $25,000 college scholarship.
