100 Years Ago: 1921
The parade of hurrying boys with paper suit boxes under their arms and girls with small packages in their hands reminds us that another group of high school graduates will receive their diplomas in the next few weeks.
50 Years Ago: 1971
A large truck almost plunged 200 feet down a gravel pit early Monday on Lewiston Crushed Stone Co. property off South Avenue. Police were informed that somebody had released the brakes on the vehicle, which then began rolling toward the edge of the pit. It jackknifed before it reached the rim, however, and stopped. Police Officer Roy H. Perham was investigating.
25 Years Ago: 1996
Andrea Bail’s class at Martel School in Lewiston learned what it was really like in Maine during the 18th century. On a recent field trip to Fort Western in Augusta, one of the students, Danielle Tardif, was learning to make wooden shingles from tree branches in preparation of making a roof.
