The lesson of the last couple of years is that Biden doesn’t have to be scintillating, impressive or inspiring. Heck, he doesn’t even have to be popular. He simply has to be there. To paraphrase Woody Allen, 90% of getting elected for Joe Biden is just showing up.

Bob Mennealy: DeSantis isn’t presidential material
Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, nicknamed by some of us Floridians as “DeathSantis” because of his anti-science and anti-vaccine beliefs, is not without critics among us sane Floridians for his anti-diversity, anti-true history and anti-LGBTQ mandates. I don’t personally feel that he is presidential material at all. Bob Mennealy, Lake Worth, Florida
Sadie Landry: Lewiston library offers value to its community
I am a 45-year-old resident of Lewiston. I have chosen to raise my family here, and both my husband and I own businesses in Lewiston. I consider myself a very involved community member that takes advantage of the public services provided to me and also contributing physically, emotionally and financially to our city. I cried […]
Cal Thomas: This should not be surprising
French President Emmanuel Macron has been criticized by some in the U.S. for cozying up to Chinese president Xi Jinping. The two recently held a three-day meeting in Beijing, after which the French president seemed to project weakness when he said Europe must not become a “vassal” by being drawn into a potential conflict between China and the U.S. over Taiwan.
Brielle Daniels: ‘Religious beliefs do not determine when life begins’
I would like to share my opinion on abortion. Religious beliefs have no medical or scientific expertise, especially about fetal development. Therefore, religious beliefs do not determine when life begins. Religions have no right to make medical decisions for anyone or for any reason. Our Constitution protects citizens from any religion trying to force its […]
Robert Pelletier: Lewiston council should cut new vehicles, not library hours
There are too many new vehicles. Lewiston Public Works is again spending $1.5 million on vehicles it doesn’t need. The City Council is allowing this, but wants to cut pennies from the Lewiston Public Library. Shame on the council. I urge the council to really take a hard look at LPW. All the vehicles are […]
Angie Tehuitzil Corral: Choose cultivating diversity in Maine: Land access for all
For years big farm owners have relied on migrant farmworkers and, historically, slavery to harvest crops and contribute to the agricultural wealth. These migrant seasonal farm workers do not get the recognition they deserve. Migrant farmworkers are settling in to be a part of a growing population of Mainers who want to farm independently, but […]
Clarence Page: Note to my fellow grumpy old men: Don’t reach too quickly for your firearms
And, of course, there were more gun-related tragedies across our land where guns way outnumber people. These stood out only because of the striking similarities in their circumstances. Whether it was because of mistaken identities or senselessly volatile tempers, they stand out as tragic examples of how routine mistakes quickly can turn tragic at the hands of people too eager to pick up a firearm.
