After Republican Glenn Youngkin’s long-shot victory in Virginia’s governor’s race in 2021 after campaigning heavily against “critical race theory,” a line of study not taught in public schools, Republicans and other conservatives have weaponized the term to blast any lessons on race, gender and identity that they don’t like as liberal “indoctrination.”

We are fortunate in Maine that we have legislators from both parties who do their best to work together to find solutions to benefit all of our citizens. Let us hope that spirit of cooperation will provide help to all our citizens.

The White House is caught in an ethical bind. On the one hand it claims classified documents found when an FBI warrant was executed at Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago resort are scandalous, while simultaneously claiming that classified documents found at President Biden’s home and at in an old office suite are not a big deal because Biden instructed his lawyers to go get them and inform the National Archives.

Congress needs to do its duty and replenish the U.S. munition stockpile.

The people of Lewiston define our city, and we are known for our gritty, can-do attitude. We persevere, and we do it with creativity and ingenuity, creating a better thriving community for all. That’s the kind of entrepreneurial energy that will drive Lewiston forward.

People who threaten to blow up an airplane if their political demands aren’t met are political terrorists. People who threaten to blow up the economy if their demands aren’t met are economic terrorists. Let’s not be shy about calling them such.

It’s very strange not to seriously pursue a deeply held goal when you have unified control of Washington, then to insist on trying to achieve much of it in one fell swoop when you barely have control of one chamber of Congress.
