My Christian faith tells me we are all beloved children of God. My secular experience tells me my publisher was correct. “Some people are just purely evil.” The best we can do is seek a ray of goodness in even the most evil people. Hard to find one in Putin, though.

Scott Harriman: Lewiston City Council must conduct the people’s business transparently
An appointment to the Planning Board might not seem like a big deal to most folks. How these four councilors went about it should be a wakeup call to all Lewiston citizens to pay close attention to what decisions are made and how our city is being governed.
Susan Martin: Proposed Auburn zoning changes raise traffic concerns
I am writing to call attention to the proposed zoning changes in Auburn. I am particularly concerned about the one that includes the Court Street and Western Avenue areas. Proposed changes would allow up to 16 units in each building as opposed to the current rule that allows three per building. Changes would also allow […]
Denis Bergeron: Planning Board should revisit proposed zoning change

When income is fixed, it’s difficult to absorb these rising prices. Retirees are facing prices like we’ve never seen in our lives. I don’t remember it being this bad in […]
Rita Dube: Senate candidate Rotundo ‘a woman of action’
I have known Peggy Rotundo for 20 years and have always admired and respected her. She is a mover and a shaker, and she gets things done. The Franco Center is a perfect example of that. In 2000, when the center was founded, she played a major role in getting $1 million from the state […]
Leonard Pitts Jr.: Kinzinger’s apology too little too late?
Adam Kinzinger, Republican from Illinois, took to Twitter last Friday with a remarkable statement of contrition for failing to hold the last president accountable. He wrote that his “biggest regret” was his decision to vote against Donald Trump’s first impeachment.
