Surely, the attacks on Manchin will only get more venomous. Such is the price of refusing to reverse himself on the filibuster and get on board a sprawling travesty of a voting bill.

Marc Greenwood: ‘Examine assertions with rigor’
Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas is considering developing tools that equip America’s children to discern truth from lies, and know when they’re being deluged with misinformation. The goal is laudable. However, expecting the government to obtain the goal is foolhardy. Cal Thomas challenged Mayorkas to fact-check his recent claim — the southern border is closed. […]
Joe Voisine: America isn’t ‘a football game between two parties’
This is what I see in “America.” We have a president who is out of control in spending our tax dollars. COVID-19 has turned into a lottery game: “Free tickets and free beer if you meet my deadline by Independence Day.” Unemployment is up when the not-so-proud people are staying home collecting unemployment checks, and […]
Froma Harrop: Must we care if you don’t get the shot?
I want to feel for the politically infantile who unnecessarily expose themselves and loved ones to a potentially deadly virus, but my feelings are running out. Leonard Pitts Jr.: ‘The right to vote is fundamental to our American democracy’
“The right to vote is fundamental to our American democracy,” (Sen. Joe Manchin) wrote in a Sunday op-ed in the Charleston Gazette-Mail of West Virginia. (He) then spent a thousand words explaining why (he) will not protect this right by supporting the For The People Act, which would end partisan gerrymandering, punish those who try to intimidate voters and streamline voter registration, among other urgently needed reforms.
Harolyn Zaldumbide: Support for Naomi Osaka
I support Naomi Osaka. After watching professional tennis for over 50 years, I’ve seen enough to know that sometimes criticism is pointed in the wrong direction and questions are not always fair or appropriate in following interviews. The Tennis Association needs to change its “iron-fistedness” and care more about players’ needs; show more compassion. I’ve […]
In rebuttal: David Plimpton: Letter ‘full of misinformation’ about Israel war crimes
Joel Goodman’s recent letter to the editor (“In rebuttal: Joel Goodman: Gilbert wrong about apartheid in Israel,” May 30) supporting Israel’s war crimes against unarmed Palestinians, including women and children, is full of misinformation, disinformation and hyperbole. The recent violence, in which 227 Palestinians, including 64 children died (while 12 Israelis died), was not started […]
