Dick Hammond, of Auburn, came to the Auburn/Lewiston Municipal Airport Wednesday afternoon with a photo of himself in front of a B-17 when he was it's tail gunner in Italy during WW II. He was hoping to ask a pilot if he knew what happened to his plane, Pig Chaser. Hammond had heard that it was in a museum somewhere but online records point to it being hit by anti-aircraft fire over a target and destroyed shortly after his crew was one of the lucky that lived through 50 missions and sent back to the states.
