Dick Hammond, of Auburn, came to the Auburn/Lewiston Municipal Airport Wednesday afternoon with a photo of himself in front of a B-17 when he was it's tail gunner in Italy during WW II. He was hoping to ask a pilot if he knew what happened to his plane, Pig Chaser. Hammond had heard that it was in a museum somewhere but online records point to it being hit by anti-aircraft fire over a target and destroyed shortly after his crew was one of the lucky that lived through 50 missions and sent back to the states. Vintage aircraft will be on display with tours and rides at Auburn/Lewiston Municipal Airport through Friday during the Collings Foundation Wings of Freedom Tour.
