Theirs is among five Maine farms recently winning competitive Value-Added Producer Grant funding from the U.S. Department of Agriculture. The Donahues are figuring out what to do with the watery byproduct of their cheese production, called whey, and hope the funding will help them open up a new income stream by feeding it to their pigs, which provide frozen pork and sausage for sale.
