Uriah Carver, 16, of Auburn talks with music teacher Brian Gagnon during Camp of Rock at the Great Falls Performing Arts Center in Auburn on Tuesday. Twenty-three students ages 11 to 17 are learning to play rock tunes during the two-week camp. Gagnon, the music teacher at Fairview Elementary School in Auburn, has offered the program for the past 15 years. Students spent Tuesday learning to play the Rush tune "Tom Sawyer," not an easy task, Gagnon said. "But, that's what we do at Camp of Rock. We go for it." Gagnon said Camp of Rock musicians typically play four or five shows each year following camp, but will only play for the public Aug. 14 at Lost Valley ski area in Auburn because of the COVID-19 pandemic. He is looking for more venues able to host a show.
